Question 1

What is a urban fixed bike?

Accepted Answer

Urban fixed-gear and convertible singlespeed bikes: street-oriented frames with brake mounts, often built up as fixies for city riding.

Question 2

What should I look for in a used urban fixed bike?

Accepted Answer

Match the bike's intended use to your riding (a race-focused frame is a poor commute bike, an endurance frame is a poor crit bike). Check the groupset tier; that's the biggest single driver of resale price. For carbon frames, inspect the head tube, bottom bracket, and seat tube for cracks. Confirm the model year matches the seller's claim against manufacturer reference photos.

Question 3

How much does a used urban fixed bike cost?

Accepted Answer

Used urban fixed bike prices span an enormous range: entry-level alloy frames trade for $500-1,500 while top-tier carbon race bikes can hold $5,000-9,000 even years after launch.
